West Florida Sweeps Belhaven in Annual Pack It Pink Match

Argonauts raise more than $7,500 for Pensacola Breast Cancer Association

PENSACOLA, Fla. – In its 13th annual Pack It Pink Match, the University of West Florida volleyball team finished off a clean 3-0 sweep over Belhaven and raised more than $7,500 for the Pensacola Breast Cancer Association in the process, through a silent auction and donations in lieu of ticket sales.

"I thought this was incredible," Wolter said. "We've never hosted Pack It Pink on a Tuesday, but I thought our administrative staff, my staff, and our players putting this whole thing together was incredible. The silent auction was off the charts, the reception was amazing, and this event just never gets old."

UWF also held a pre-match reception for cancer survivors, who were recognized on the court before action began.

Once the match started, UWF had little trouble in front of the season-best crowd of 682.

"I thought we played really disciplined from start to finish," head coach Melissa Wolter said. "Across the board, I was really proud of our team for keeping a steady level of play throughout the match regardless of the changes I was making."

The Argonauts hit .458 on the night, marking the seventh-best single-match attack percentage in program history. West Florida tallied 37 kills on just 72 attempts, with a season-low four errors.

Jordyn Poppen led UWF with six kills, while Ashlan Riley, Kierra Potts, and JoDee Kovanda each added four. Brogan Wallin (17) and Taylor Vaneekeren (15) combined for 32 assists, and Ashton Marshall's 12 digs gave her double digits in the category – a feat she has accomplished in every match this year.

The Argonauts breezed through the first set, hitting .684, holding Belhaven to a -.143 hitting percentage, and winning 25-6. The second set was not much different, with a 25-11 win for West Florida coming behind three kills each from Marissa Hackett, Sadie Hough, and Kovanda.

UWF cleaned up the final set with a 25-13 win, as Riley picked up three kills. There were no ties or lead changes during the entire match.

West Florida will face Saint Leo, Barry, and Embry-Riddle at the South Region Crossover in Birmingham, Alabama, over the weekend.

"The Crossover always presents great, challenging opponents," Wolter said of the tournament. "I think our team is ready to step into that arena, where it's a big deal in trying to solidify a spot in the regional rankings. I think our girls are excited and ready to play some great competition."
