Argos earn huge point at West Alabama

UWF outshoots 14-8 in contest

Livingston, Ala.- The 15th ranked UWF Men's Soccer team was able to secure a draw on the road Sunday afternoon at West Alabama in Tiger Stadium after neither team could find the net during the contest.

West Florida moves to 9-1-2 and 5-1-2 in the GSC while West Alabama improves to 3-6-2 and 1-3-2 after the result.

On the afternoon, the Argonauts actually spent most of the afternoon in the Tigers third by outshooting UWA 14-8 and securing six corner kicks in the process.  Bernardo Torres lead all UWF players with four total shots, two of which were on goal in 94 total minutes.  Fellow forward Sean Hoffstatter was second on the team with three shots in the match.  The senior from Fort Walton Beach leads all offensive players with five goals on the season.

The first half was controlled by the away team as West Florida had seven shots as opposed to West Alabama's one.  Torres, freshman Davi Alves and sophomore forward Gabriel Arraes all had their chances but they were turned away by UWA goalkeeper William Blake.

The second half and overtime were a little more even as the Argonaut defense had to step up when called upon.  Sophomore goalkeeper Jihad Gomes stood tall again as he recorded his second straight shutout after holding Alabama Huntsville scoreless on Friday night.  It wasn't just him as it was a total defensive effort boosted by the return of senior defender Jerry Wiltshire.  The England native anchored the defense along with fellow senior Brandon Jose, Lucas Barankiewicz and midfielder Andrew Wentz.

Next Up: West Florida gets some much needed rest before they return to action at home against Pensacola Christian on October 29th.  Kickoff against the Eagles is set for 6 pm.
