NCAA REGIONAL RANKINGS
INDIANAPOLIS – The 20th-ranked UWF football team is ranked fifth in the first NCAA Super Region 2 ranking of 2019 as released by the NCAA Monday afternoon.
UWF is 6-1 on the season with a 5-1 mark against Super Region 2 teams. The Argonauts are 5-0 in Gulf South Conference play and join Valdosta State (6-0) as the only unbeatens in the 9-member league.
VSU is the top-ranked team in the poll and is off this week before hosting UWF Nov. 9 in Valdosta, Ga. South Atlantic Conference leader Lenoir-Rhyne is second, followed by Bowie State and Wingate. Carson-Newman is sixth, with Virginia State seventh and Mississippi College eighth, respectively.
The poll is the first of four regional rankings released by the football committee, which are used to determine the 28-team bracket for the NCAA Division II Football Playoffs. The top seven teams from each of the four regions in the final rankings on Sunday, Nov. 17 will advance to the Division II Playoffs, with the top seed receiving a first round bye.
UWF will return to action this Saturday when it plays host to North Greenville (3-5, 2-4 GSC). Kickoff at Blue Wahoos Stadium is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. The game can be heard on the UWF Sports Network at ESPN Pensacola 1330 AM/99.1 FM, beginning 30 minutes before kickoff.
