Argonauts Pull out the Win in Four Over the Wolves

UWF travels to Valdosta for their next match tomorrow night

CARROLLTON, Ga. –  The Argonauts take down the Wolves in four sets tonight as UWF moves to 4-0 in conference play and 11-5 overall. The Argos are now the only team in the GSC that is undefeated in conference play after tonight's win over West Georgia who came into the match also undefeated. West Georgia now moves to 3-1 in the GSC and 8-7 overall. 

The Argos had a tough match tonight with the Wolves as they battled back and forth in every set with UWF only dropping the second set to the Wolves. UWF won 27-25, 28-26, 25-20, 25-21 decisions respectively. 

Jordyn Poppen led the team in kills with 19 hitting .292 with 48 total attacks. She was followed by both Ebony Powers and Veresia Yon who totaled 10 kills each and Yon hit .278 while Powers hit .188. Ashlan Riley held up the best hitting percentage hitting .667 with 2 kills on 3 attacks with no errors.

On the defensive end of the game, Ashton Marshall set a match high record with 30 digs for the match. Marshall was followed by Poppen with 12 digs and Julia Izquierdo with 10 digs coming in for Powers in the back row. 

As a team the Argos hit a .226 and had a total of 78 digs while the Wolves hit a .140 and had a team total of 65 digs. 

On Saturday the Argos will travel to Valdosta, Ga. to face Valdosta State who is currently 2-2 in the GSC and 10-7 overall. The Blazers took a hard loss to Auburn Montgomery in a five-set battle where the Warhawks pulled out the win in the fifth set 15-12.

Saturday's match will begin at 7:00 PM ET.
