Pensacola, Fla.- The West Florida Men's Soccer team used goals in key spots to defeat Spring Hill College in the for the third time this season by a final of 3-1 inside the UWF Soccer Complex.
UWF moves to 12-1-3 and earns a spot in Friday's Gulf South Conference tournament semifinal while the loss drops the Badgers to 7-8 on the year.
The Argonauts used a goal from senior forward
Sean Hoffstatter in the 15th minute off a beautiful pass from defender
Lucas Barankiewicz, to get on the board first. Hoffstatter regained the team lead for goals with his seventh of the season. Midfielder
Ed Chappe would later add to the lead on a penalty kick in the 40th minute after a shot by Hoffstatter was interfered by a hand ball from a Spring Hill player, resulting in a red card.
However, the Badgers would make it interesting in the second half after All-GSC first team selection, Alex Lipinski, recorded a goal in the 61st minute to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Argos would respond as Eduardo Quieroz would put the finishing touches on the game as he scored in the 73rd minute off a corner kick from Chappe.
The Argonaut defense was mostly solid throughout the game, limiting Spring Hill to just 14 shots on the night with only six on goal. Goalkeeper
Jihad Gomes was once again big for the blue and white as he notched five saves.
Next Up: The team will get a few days rest before their GSC semifinal match against Alabama Huntsville on Friday, November 15th at Ashton Brosnaham Park in Pensacola. Kickoff between the Argonauts and Chargers is set for 2:30pm.
