Pensacola, Fla.- In front of a strong crowd on senior day at the University of West Florida, the 16th ranked Argonauts played to a 2-2 draw against Mississippi College inside the UWF Soccer Complex.
The tie pushes the Choctaws to 8-5-1 and 7-0-3 in the Gulf South Conference to clinch the conference regular season title while West Florida moves to 11-1-3 and 6-1-3 in the GSC.
The contest could not have started better for the Argos with two goals in the opening 20 minutes.
Freshman
Davi Alves booted a ball past the goalkeeper's right shoulder for his fifth of the season off an assist from defender
Lucas Barankiewicz, while
Rafael Godoi drew a foul in the penalty box to set up
Ed Chappe's penalty kick score to make it 2-0 West Florida.
After Mississippi College scored twice in the opening 10 minutes of the second to draw even, both teams traded equally good chances with forwards
Sean Hoffstatter, Andy Wentz,
Teavon Spencer and midfielder Eduardo Quieroz each putting their best foot forward. However, time ran out on both teams as the horn expired in double overtime.
Next Up: The Argonauts will host a GSC play in game on Tuesday afternoon at the UWF Soccer Complex, with the opponent of that game yet to be determined as the Argos look to open the post-season on the right foot.
