Argos Stay Hot, Down No. 18 Nova Southeastern

Menhennett racks up home run, three RBIs in victory

PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF baseball won its fifth straight Monday at Jim Spooner Field, downing No.18 Nova Southeastern 9-3. Dylan Menhennett went deep and combined with Trevor Payne for five RBIs to power the win.

"I'm proud of the way the guys came out to play tonight, definitely," said UWF head coach Mike Jeffcoat.

Andrew Vaccacio got the start for UWF, lasting into the fourth. He limited Nova to two hits and one run (one earned) while striking out five and walking one. Daniel Floyd (2-0) picked up the win in relief. He allowed two runs (zero earned) from the fourth through the sixth. He struck out three and walked one.

"The pitching is really what's keeping the momentum going for us," said Jeffcoat. "That's helping that offense continue going."

Matt Sullivan's fifth double of the homestand helped the Argos take a 1-0 lead in the third. His rip scored Menhennett. The Argos added two more in the fourth on an RBI double by Payne and an RBI groundout by Isaac Phillips.

The Argonauts followed with four more in the fifth. Payne notched his second RBI double before Menhennett cranked his first UWF homer over the left field wall. UWF tacked on two more in the sixth on a Joey Bend RBI single and a Sharks error.

Bend finished with two hits and two runs scored. Matthew Estrada reached base three times before exiting late after fouling a ball off his leg.

Ryan Maya (0-1) took the loss for Nova. The reliever went 1.1 innings, allowing four runs (four earned). Josh Pahlad earned his second save of the season by pitching the final three innings. He did not allow a hit or a run while striking out a season-best five and walking one.

The Argonauts (6-4, 3-0 GSC) will close the two-game series vs. the Sharks (5-4, 2-1 SSC) tomorrow. Jay Simpson (0-0) is slated to get the start for the Argos. First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.

"We feel good about where the pitching is," said Jeffcoat. "Hopefully the weather will cooperate."
