Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Henderson, Benoit Each Net 21 As Argos Win In Montgomery

UWF has now won five of its last seven games

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – UWF men's basketball won for the fifth time in the last seven games Monday at Auburn Montgomery. The Argos downed the Warhawks 92-85 behind 21 points each from Jarrett Henderson and Maxwell Benoit. Five players scored at least 15 points.

"I am proud of our players," said UWF head coach Jeff Burkhamer. "We fought through some adversity in the second half but had a great finish."

Henderson went over 20 points for the second straight game, collecting nine rebounds in the process. Benoit, who carded just 22 minutes, shot the ball at an exceptional clip all night, knocking down 7-of-12 attempts from the field and 4-of-7 beyond the arc. UWF shot 32-of-59 from the field as a team, knocking down 6-of-15 three-point attempts and 22-of-25 free throws.

"We got late stops and executed well offensively," said Burkhamer. "Great to see balance with five guys in double figures."

The Henderson-Benoit duo combined for 25 in the first to help UWF build a 46-33 halftime advantage. Auburn Montgomery roared back after the break, tying the contest at 66-66 with 10 minutes to play. UWF staved off the rally with a 6-0 run of its own. The Warhawks shrunk the lead again to 75-74 before an 11-0 Argo run put the edge out of reach.

Henri Ventoniemi narrowly missed out on the double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. Jon Brown scored 15 points while grabbing four rebounds and passing out two assists. Rashaan Benson scored 15 while adding six assists and four rebounds. Henderson had two assists and two steals to go with his 21 points and nine rebounds.

UWF has now won five of its last seven games. Another win will pull the Argos closer to a Gulf South Tournament berth. The team now stands 2.5 games out of the eighth-place spot, currently occupied by West Georgia. The Argos and Wolves will meet Saturday.

First though, the Argos (9-13, 5-9 GSC) will look to stay hot at Shorter (2-19, 0-13 GSC) Thursday. First tip vs. the Hawks in Rome, Ga. is slated for 8:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. CT.
