PENSACOLA, Fla. – No. 12/23 UWF baseball enjoyed a banner day Saturday, sweeping No. 2/6 Delta State in a doubleheader by finals of 7-5 and 7-3 Saturday at Ferriss Field.

Andrew Vaccacio earned wins on the mound, and
Matt Sullivan and
Adam Imwalle combined for seven RBIs in the twinbill.
"It was great to win on the road once again," said UWF head coach
Mike Jeffcoat. "These guys played outstanding with a lot of energy."
The Argos and Statesmen close the series Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Game 1: Argos 7, Statesmen 5
Tony Kucera earned the win in Game 1 for the Argos. The senior lefty improved to 5-0 on the season by going 6.1 innings. He allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits while striking out three and walking two.
The Argos got out to a 2-0 lead in the second on a two-out, two-RBI double by
Matt Sullivan. Sullivan would finish the game with four RBIs, all accumulated with two outs on the scoreboard.
After the Statesmen whittled the lead to 2-1 later in the second, the Argos responded in the fourth.
Dylan Menhennett homered to start the scoring surge. His solo blast was his third of the season. Sullivan added an RBI double later in the frame. The Argos also took advantage of one of four DSU errors in the game to run the lead to 5-1.
Delta State cut a 6-1 lead down to 6-5 with the help of a three-run homer by Weber Herbison in the seventh. UWF found insurance though in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by
Matthew Estrada to open the final margin of 7-5.
Daniel Floyd earned his fourth save of the season by working two scoreless innings to close the game.
Robert Lopez finished with two hits, including a double. DSU starter Hunter Riggins, who entered the game as the GSC's ERA leader, suffered the loss after allowing six runs (three earned) over seven innings. He now stands at 6-2 on the season.
Game 2: Argos 7, Statesmen 3
UWF kept the offensive output up to start the second game of the day. The bats jumped out to a 3-0 lead with the help of RBI doubles from
Trevor Payne and Imwalle in the first.
The lead would be protected throughout the game by
Andrew Vaccacio, who struck out nine and walked just one on the way to a seven-inning complete game victory. The win moved him to 3-0 on the season. Vaccacio allowed just one run before the seventh.
UWF ran the lead to 5-1 in the third on a two-RBI double by
Matthew Jones. Imwalle picked up an RBI single in the seventh, as did Imwalle to open the lead to its largest margin at 7-1.
Imwalle paced all bats with three hits. Jones and Lopez each finished with two. The Argos outhit the Statesmen 10-8.
UWF (21-8, 13-1 GSC) now leads Delta State (19-7, 11-5 GSC) by three full games in the race for first place in the Gulf South. The teams close the series Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
"You hope they learned their lesson from Valdosta State, and what can happen if they stay with it and what it takes to sweep a team on the road," said Jeffcoat, whose team is looking for its second straight conference road series sweep. "But again we're on the road at Delta State, and it's going to be very difficult, but I have a lot of confidence in our guys."
