Argos Win Sixth Straight In Runaway Fashion

UWF downs William Carey, sets for Embry-Riddle this weekend

PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF baseball won its sixth straight ballgame Tuesday at Jim Spooner Field. The team downed William Carey 11-2.

"Pleased with the overall performance," said UWF head coach Mike Jeffcoat. "Hopefully we can keep moving forward and have a couple of days of practice getting ready for the weekend."

Jay Simpson got the start for the Argos and turned in a very solid performance over the first four innings. He allowed no runs and just one hit while striking out five without a walk. The win improved the Jones County Junior College alum to 1-1 on the season.

UWF led 7-0 after two innings. Matthew Jones went deep as the second batter of the game to set the tone for the Argo offense. Matt Sullivan joined him with a two-run blast in the second, and Dylan Menhennett joined the party with a two-run homer of his own in the fourth.

The Argo offense outhit the Crusaders 15-7. Matt Sullivan and Mike Farnell each finished with three hits. Lopez had two doubles and three runs scored. Farnell picked up a pair of RBIs.

The win was the sixth straight for UWF (12-6, 8-1 GSC). The team has risen to No. 3 in the NCBWA South Region poll released Tuesday.

"I'm just glad again that we came out ready to play tonight," said Jeffcoat. "Always when you can get a W, you've got to take it for what it is and respect the game and be happy you came out and gave it your best."

The team remains in Pensacola to battle Embry-Riddle in a three-game set starting Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
