FULL ALL-DISTRICT TEAMS LIST
GREENWOOD, Ind. – Courtney McLellan,
Jacquelynne Poling, and
Rhiannon Sassman have been named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Softball Team, released last week. This is the third time Sassman has been awarded with the honor, and it's the first time that McLellan and Poling have been on the list.
McLellan has stood out as West Florida's right fielder in her sophomore season, batting .307 with 11 doubles and nearly twice as many walks as strikeouts. She was named a D2CCA All-South Region selection last week and batted .300 with two runs scored in the Gulf South Conference Tournament. McLellan is a sophomore studying Health Care Administration.
Poling is having a career year, setting career highs in every major category and earning a spot on the NFCA All-South Region Second Team. Poling leads UWF in doubles (3) and RBIs (6) this postseason, and she hit a home run in the GSC Tournament against West Alabama. The junior also has multi-hit games in the postseason against West Alabama (GSC Tournament) and Tampa (NCAA South 1 Regional). Poling is an Informal Education / Learning major.
Rhiannon Sassman takes her third Academic All-District nod, and she has already been named the D2CCA South Region Player of the Year and GSC Player of the Year in the last two weeks. The senior from Orlando, Florida, leads Division II in triples (8), and she leads UWF in doubles (14), RBIs (49), and slugging (.601). Sassman leads UWF with 10 multi-RBI games this season and is second on the team with 19 multi-hit games. Sassman is a senior majoring in Biomedical Sciences.
The 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Softball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (when selected) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.
West Florida will host No. 4 Florida Tech in the NCAA Softball South Super Regional at the UWF Softball Complex, beginning at 4 pm on Thursday.
