FULL LIST

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Four University of West Florida softball players have been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-South Region teams, the organization announced Thursday. Kelsey Sweatt, Teala Howard, and Rhiannon Sassman were first team selections, and Jacquelynne Poling was picked as the catcher for the second team.

Named the D2CCA South Region Pitcher of the Year on Wednesday, Kelsey Sweatt earned a first team selection on the NFCA all-region team. The sophomore leads the Gulf South Conference in ERA (1.50), opponent batting average (.167), and hits allowed per seven innings (4.1), and she is second in the league in wins (18). Sweatt, the native of Jacksonville, Florida, was named the GSC Tournament Most Outstanding Player after firing 14 innings over three games, allowing just 1 run and striking out 18 batters.

This marks Sassman's third NFCA all-region selection, and she earned a spot on this year's first team as a third baseman. She was named the D2CCA South Region Player of the Year earlier this week, and was named the GSC Player of the Year last week, becoming the fourth UWF player to earn the honor. The senior leads UWF with 10 multi-RBI games this season and is second on the squad with 19 multi-hit games. Sassman, a native of Orlando, Florida, also leads the Argonauts in doubles (14), triples (8), RBIs (48), total bases (101), and slugging percentage (.631).

Teala Howard picks up her second All-South Region selection of the year, after being named a first team pick for the D2CCA All-South Region team on Wednesday. The freshman earned a spot as an outfielder on the NFCA's first team and is riding a 10-game hitting streak that dates back to April 25 against Florida Southern. She has six multi-hit games in her last eight contests and leads the GSC in batting (.475), hits (86), and stolen bases (45), while ranking sixth in Division II in hits and 11th in batting.

Jacquelynne Poling earns her first career All-South Region nod, taking the second team catcher spot for West Florida. Poling has added 10 doubles and a team-high 4 home runs, and she has recorded 9 multi-hit games in her junior season. Poling has set career highs in batting, runs (13), hits (39), doubles (10), home runs (4), RBIs (26), total bases (63), slugging, and on-base percentage (.404) this year.

The 2019 NFCA Division II All-American teams will be announced on Wednesday, May 22 at the NCAA Division II National Championship Banquet in Denver, Colo.

UWF will continue its NCAA Tournament run on Friday afternoon at 1 pm at the UWF Softball Complex.
