Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 11 Men's Soccer opens GSC schedule with win over Christian Brothers

Two second half goals from Sean Hoffstatter propel Argos

Facing another tough road test this time in Tennessee, the 11th ranked UWF Men's Soccer team was able to pull out a victory behind two goals from redshirt senior forward Sean Hoffstatter and timely plays from goalkeeper Jihad Gomes and the Argonaut defense.

West Florida now moves to 5-0 and 1-0 in the Gulf South Conference on the year, while the loss drops Christian Brothers to 2-3.

The first half was played with most of the possession belonging to CBU as Brazilian native Jihad Gomes had to make three key saves to keep the opposing Buccaneers off the score sheet.  In total, Christian Brothers had seven shots on goal compared to none by the Argonauts.

The second half was a much different story however as UWF outshot CBU six to one. The breakthough came in the 59th minute when freshman forward Davi Alves sent a ball down the right sideline to Hoffstatter who was able to sneak the ball past the Buccaneer netminder to give the Argos a 1-0 advantage.

Six minutes later, Hoffstatter would strike again off a beautiful feed from midfielder Andrew Wentz to put the game out of reach for CBU.

It was not just the offense that was strong for UWF as again the Argos used a total team effort to stymie the opponent.  The backline trio of Lucas Barankiewicz, Brandon Jose and Jerry Wiltshire all played 90 minutes while senior midfielders Ryan Sandidge and Wentz were crucial in supporting the back three.

Next Up: The Argonauts continue to the road trip in Tennessee with a matchup against Union on Sunday, September 29th.  Kickoff is scheduled for 3pm.
