2019 Springhill Suites Invitational Schedule

PENSACOLA, Fla. –  The Argos opened up their season with a five set battle against Western Washington in the first match of the 2019 West Florida Invitational.Â
No. 3 Western Washington started the match taking set one, but No. 24 West Florida turned around and took the next two set wins and then leading the match, but WWU was able to come back and win sets four and five to win the match.
In set one, Western Washington came out on top hitting a .263 compared to the Argos .050 earning the first set 25-18.Â
The Argos turned their game around in the next set out playing the Vikings enough to take the second set 25-21.Â
Set three was close where the Vikings statistically won the offense, but our defense and earned points led us to the third set win 25-23.
Set four, the Argos took off in a four point lead 5-1, but it did not take long for the Vikings to make up that ground with their own four point run. After that the Argos and Vikings went point-for-point and never had more than a three point difference. Western Washington tied the set at 24-24 with a service error and then turned around and won the next two points to win the set 26-24.
With the match tied 2-2, the fifth set was a race to eight and then to fifteen. UWF took an early deficit trailing 5-0 within minutes, but then gathered themselves and fought to close the gap to two points at the end at 14-12. The Vikings earned the final point with a kill from Kayleigh Harper ending the set 15-12 and the match 3-2.Â
Tomorrow the Argos are scheduled to play the second and the fourth match of the day. The Argonauts will play at 11:30 AM against Spring Hill College and then will have a match break, but will come back at 4:30 PM to face Florida Tech in the UWF Field House.
