MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The UWF women's basketball team suffered a tough start the third quarter and fell to Montevallo, 65-54, at Trustmark Arena on Monday night.
UWF (4-10, 0-6 Gulf South) shot 31 percent and made a season-high seven 3-pointers. The Argonauts also controlled the glass with a 50-38 rebounding edge.
"We just couldn't score early in the third," UWF head coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "We went a few possessions where we didn't score and they did. We just couldn't get back into the game after that."
Danielle Norquest finished with 21 points and 17 rebounds, posting another double-double. This one – her NCAA-leading 11th – was accomplished by halftime.
Faithe Franklin grabbed 11 rebounds and added four assists, three steals and nine points.
UM (10-2, 5-1) was led by Shyan Flack who had 17 points, six rebounds, four assists and five blocks. Aaliyah Rice was also in double figures, ending with 15 points and eight boards. The Falcons had 17 points off 18 Argonauts turnovers.
UWF led 28-26 at the half but was outscored 11-0 in the first 2:45 of the third quarter. The Falcons registered another 11-0 run later in the quarter to stretch their lead to 50-34 and keep the Argos at bay. UWF never got closer than nine the rest of the game.
UWF will return home for a pair of games against the Mississippi schools, beginning Thursday night against Delta State (11-1, 4-1). The game against the Lady Statesmen in the UWF Field House will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. with all fans encouraged to wear white for a White Out. The first 100 UWF students will receive a free t-shirt with a valid Nautilus Card.
