PENSACOLA, Fla.- The University of West Florida Men's Basketball Team officially opens the 2020-21 season with a home match-up against Lee University inside the UWF Field House on Saturday afternoon.

Tip-off is scheduled for 3pm.  UWF had their first game against Shorter postponed due to Gulf South Conference Covid-19 protocols.

West Florida is looking to build off a 2019-20 campaign in which they 14-14 and 11-9 in the GSC, advancing to the conference tournament.  Returning five lettermen from last season, including three guards in Cameron Cox, Tarik Mckelphin and Brett Carter Jr. who accounted for 34 percent of the scoring, the Argos are poised to take a jump in the conference standings this season.

Returning forwards Daniel Sofield and Conor Flanagan will look to anchor down low while the Argos add in eight newcomers to compliment the five players who came back from last season's squad.

Scouting the Flames: Picked second in the GSC East division, the Flames bring back six players who played at least 16 games last season on a team that finished 22-7 and 16-4 in the GSC. One key returner from last season is pre-season all-conference guard, Quay Kennedy.  The native of Columbia, Tennessee, averaged nearly 14 points per game last season on 53 percent shooting.  The junior also shot 39 percent from three while averaging 5.6 rebounds per contest in 2019-20.

Series History:   All-time, the Argonauts are 3-9 against Lee, going 3-3 when the two teams square off at the UWF Field House.  In their one match-up last season, West Florida fell 75-63, despite Cameron Cox's 15 points.  Conor Flanagan chipped in eight points for UWF as well.

Gameday Reminders: In an effort to slow the spread of Covid-19, the University of West Florida is limiting attendance for all games in the month of December to only immediate family members of UWF student-athletes and staff.  Visiting teams will be a pre-approved pass list for guests.  Face coverings and at least six feet of social distancing will be required the UWF Fieldhouse by spectators and staff.  Fans will not be allowed on the court at any time, which includes pre-and post-game.
