PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida softball team opens its home schedule on Wednesday afternoon with a game against Spring Hill at the UWF Softball Complex. First pitch is set for 2 pm.
All baseball and softball tickets can be purchased at the gate by the ticket box in the center of the East Sports Complex entrance.

IT'S GOOD TO BE HOME
After 12 games on the road to start the season, West Florida will finally be back at the friendly confines of the UWF Softball Complex. Over the last three years, the Argonauts have hit .321 at home while averaging 5.7 runs per game, and the pitching staff has compiled a 2.18 ERA. West Florida has also had a 64-12 at home in that time.
Juniors
Courtney McLellan,
Grace Gilbert, and
Mika Garcia have truly stood out at home in their two years with UWF. McLellan is a career .356 hitter at home with 9 doubles and twice as many walks as strikeouts, and Garcia has hit .330 with a .546 slugging percentage at the UWF Softball Complex. Gilbert has a career .398/.451/.490 batting line and an 18-2 record in the circle with a 1.99 ERA at home.
Jacquelynne Poling broke out at home in 2019, hitting .382 with 8 doubles and 16 RBIs in just 23 games played.
Teala Howard hit .485 and was a perfect 24-24 in stolen base tries at home in her freshman season.
ABOUT SPRING HILL
Spring Hill has gotten off to a shaky start in 2020, holding a 1-5 record. The Badgers are hitting .226 as a team, but Delaney Thomas and Hannah Fillmore have stood out. Thomas is batting .412/.524/.706 with 5 doubles, while Fillmore is hitting .316 with a double and 4 RBIs. UWF is 15-4 against SHC since 2014 and has won 12 in a row.
A LOOK AT LAST WEEK
UWF got off to a 1-2 start in conference play at Montevallo last weekend, but there were still positive takeaways from the weekend. The pitching staff combined for a 2.14 ERA and a .186 opponent batting average.
Kelsey Sweatt put together a 0.95 ERA with 9 strikeouts over 7.1 innings, and
Megan Warhurst allowed just one hit over 5.2 innings against the Falcons. Those two rank first (Warhurst; .056) and third (Sweatt; .083) in the GSC in opponent batting average in conference play. Warhurst also ranks ninth in Division II in hits allowed per seven innings (2.85).
Courtney McLellan led the team with 4 hits and a .400 batting average over the weekend,
Madison Lanier went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk in her first career start, and
Grace Gilbert went 3-for-9 at the plate with 2 RBIs -- giving her a GSC-best 16 runs driven in this year.
