VALDOSTA, Ga.- For the second time this season the UWF Men's Tennis Team traveled to Valdosta, Georgia, this time ending up on the winning end as they defeated Rollins by a final of 6-1 at the Valdosta State University Tennis Complex on Friday morning. West Florida played in Valdosta in their first match of the season against Georgia Gwinnett, falling 4-0.
The win improves the Argonauts to 5-1 while the loss drops the Tars to 1-4.
The wins came early and often for UWF as they captured two doubles matches with the duos of
Adam Svensson and Serdar Bojadiev winning 6-2 while Nicholas Lecoutre and
Gabriel Nery also took a 6-2 victory.
Despite dropping the #2 doubles match, the Argos created separation in the singles draw. West Florida taking five out of six matches, with four of those victories coming in straight sets.
Juan Motta, returning from injury, won by a large margin in the #1 singles pairing by a score of 6-3, 6-3.
Juan Cabrera, the other regionally ranked singles player for the Argos also dispatched his opponent by a final 7-5, 6-4.
Two younger players for the Argonauts came up big as well in sophomore
Salvador Bandeira and fellow sophomore
Pedro Cordeiro winning 6-1, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-4, respectively. Lecoutre capped off the victory with 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 result.
The men will return home for their first match on home turf this season on Sunday, February 23rd against Lee. The match between the Argonauts and Flames will begin at 10 am.
