HEADING TO CENTRAL FLORIDA
West Florida continues nonconference play to begin the season, visiting Viera, Florida, for the Florida Tech Invitational, hosted at the USSSA Space Coast Complex. UWF will match up with New Haven and South Region opponents Palm Beach Atlantic, Saint Leo, Florida Tech, and Florida Southern over the weekend. This is the first year that UWF has competed in the Florida Tech Invitational, and the Argonauts have a combined 24-22 all-time record against those opponents. It will be the first time West Florida has faced New Haven.

AT GULF SHORES
The first weekend of the year was a bit of a mixed bag for the Argonauts. After a big win over No. 9 Florida Tech in the season-opener, UWF fell in the following two games due to some defensive miscues and timely hitting from Saint Leo and Nova Southeastern, before defeating Miles to wrap the weekend.

BIG WEEKEND FOR GRACE GILBERT
Grace Gilbert led UWF offensively in Gulf Shores, slugging .533 with 8 RBIs, which rank 10th in the country after a week of action.

She went 4-for-5 with 4 RBIs in the opener against Florida Tech, and she had another 4 RBIs against Miles on Sunday afternoon. Those were the first 4-RBI games in the junior's career. She also had a hit against Nova Southeastern and against Saint Leo, giving her a four-game hitting streak to start the season.

TEALA HOWARD BACK AT IT AGAIN
Teala Howard picked up right where she left off in her freshman campaign, hitting .500 over the weekend with 7 runs scored and 2 stolen bases. Like Gilbert, the sophomore started off 2020 with a four-game hitting streak and had a pair of multi-hit games. Howard went 3-for-5 against Florida Tech and scored three runs against FT and against Miles.

STRIKEOUT ARTIST KELSEY SWEATT
Junior pitcher Kelsey Sweatt earned the win over Florida Tech on Saturday afternoon, allowing just one run over five innings. She struck out five and gave up just three hits in her start, and she struck out another two batters in a relief appearance against Nova Southeastern later in the day. Charged with the loss against No. 25 Saint Leo, Sweatt struck out seven over six innings, and she threw two hitless innings of relief against Miles. Her 17 strikeouts -- which she totaled over 14 innings -- currently rank 18th in the country.
