Estrada, Keating Shine in Home Opener to Give Argos First Win of the Season

Argos Seek to Take the Series Tomorrow at 2pm

PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF baseball shutout Rollins in their home opener, defeating the Tars 3-0 on Friday night at Jim Spooner Field. The Argos' pitching was the storyline in the game with Eric Keating going seven strong innings allowing only four hits and one walk. He was awarded the win, evening his record on the year at 1-1. Freshman Sean Means pitched the eighth inning allowing no hits and one walk, setting up Brendon Case in the ninth to pick up his first save of the year.

Three Argos' finished the night with multi-hit games. O'Shea led the offense going 3-4 at the plate with an RBI, Estrada went 2-4 with an RBI and two runs, and Brooks Mitchell had two hits with a run scored.

The Argonauts struck first in the game, scoring a run in the first inning to take the lead 1-0. Matthew Estrada began the inning with a double down the right field line and Cullan O'Shea added his third RBI of the season with a single to right field.

The other two runs in the game came in the fifth inning. Estrada doubled, scoring Mitchell from second and Trevor Payne followed with a sacrifice bunt to move him to third with one out. Adam Imwalle did his job and scored Estrada with a sacrifice fly, giving the Argos the 3-0 lead.

"It was a good night in the home opener to come out and play like we did. It started with Keating on the mound and we played great defense behind him. When we do that we give our team a great chance to win," said UWF head coach Mike Jeffcoat.

UWF and Rollins will play game two of the series on Saturday at Jim Spooner Field. Hunter Lucas (0-0) is expected to make his first start of the year for West Florida. Drew Daczkowski (0-0) will make his second start of the season for Rollins. He owns a 2.25 ERA and had seven strikeouts in four innings pitched in his first start of the year at Spring Hill last week. First pitch is slated for 2:00 pm.

"Rollins has a good team and we've still got two more games to go in this series, but certainly to win the first game and get in the win column for the season is a big plus for our team," Jeffcoat said.
