Sofield, Flanagan Shine In Loss At Lee

Argos will face Montevallo on the road on Tuesday night

Box Score

CLEVELAND, Tenn.
- Daniel Sofield and Conor Flanagan each nine points but Lee once again was clinical on the offensive end of the floor, shooting 53 percent as they won 81-48 on Saturday afternoon inside the Paul Dana Walker Arena on the campus of Lee University.

West Florida falls to 2-5 while the Flames move to 7-1 on the year.

"This was our first back to back and we need to do a better job of moving on from one game to the next", UWF Head Coach Jeff Burkhamer said.  "We did not have enough urgency to start the game defensively, and we could never find that energy.  You have these games once in awhile and it is going to happen, but it is all about how you respond moving forward."

Both teams traded baskets early in the match-up, with Flanagan accounting for five early points as the score sat at nine apiece at the first media timeout.  However, the Flames would quickly go on a 20-2 run to put distance between the two teams as the Argos shot 1-13 and committed five turnovers during the stretch.  West Florida was able to climb back and make it a 32-17 game at the break.

After baskets from forward Wendell Matthews, earning his first start of the year and finishing with six points, and Flanagan to cut the deficit to 14, LU was able to stretch its lead all the way to 28 following a three from Alex Kelehear at the 12:41 mark.  Kelehear had a game-high 16 points off the bench.  The Flames lead got as high as 38 before the closing moments of the game as they shot 63 percent from the field in the final period.  Quay Kennedy chipped in 15 points for the home team.

Kendall Bynum finished with a career-high six points off the bench, will fellow guard Akili Vining adding five of his own.  Cameron Cox led all Argos with four rebounds during the contest.  In all, the Argos pulled down 23 rebounds on the night.

"It is still early in the season so we have to let this one go and get ready for three big games next week", Burkhamer said.

The Argos will be back in action on Tuesday night at Montevallo at 6 pm and then UWF will come back home for a two-game series against Shorter, next Friday and Saturday.  Tip-off versus the Hawks is set for 6:30 on Friday and 3 pm on Saturday afternoon.
