PENSACOLA, Fla. – Montevallo shot 61 percent and got 53 points from its bench in a 92-50 win over UWF in women's basketball action at the UWF Field House on Friday.
UM used a 9-0 run late in the first quarter to break open a one-point game and take a 23-13 lead into the second frame. The Falcons stretched the margin to 43-20 by halftime thanks to a 9-of-14 shooting effort in the second period.
UWF (1-2, 1-2 Gulf South) shot 21 percent overall and finished with four 3-point field goals. The Argonauts outrebounded the Falcons 47-31 and had an impressive 28 on the offensive end. UWF held a 21-8 edge in second chance points.
"Our biggest thing was we got into some foul trouble (late in the first quarter) and when we made some substitutions, our play wasn't elevated at those spots," UWF head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "Montevallo's bench scored 53 points and we couldn't make up for that in our bench play and that's something we have to get better at."
Danielle Norquest had nine points and 10 rebounds to pace the UWF offense. Aline Fevrier, Charlotte Ellmore, Amara Newsom and Alex Haymon all had seven apiece for the Argos.
Jennifer Andrew had a game-high 17 points off the bench for UM (2-2, 2-2). Jordan Jones made three of the team's nine 3-pointers and finished with 15 points.
The same two teams will play again on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. The UWF men's team will play host to Auburn Montgomery at 6:30 p.m.
