Box Score

PENSACOLA, Fla.
- Daniel Sofield scored 24 points, going 6-7 from three-point range, while Conor Flanagan pitched in 15 points of his own to lead West Florida past Auburn Montgomery by a final of 78-70 on Saturday night at the UWF Field House.

The victory moves UWF to 2-1 while AUM drops to 1-3 on the young season.

West Florida got off to a quick start, building a 16-11 lead at the under 12 media timeout with six Argos putting points on the board.  One of the Argos to score, forward Wendell Matthews, saw his first action on the season.  Matthews had six of his eight points in the first half, to go along with his team-high five rebounds.

UWF would go into halftime up 39-28 as they closed the first period by scoring eight points in the final three minutes with Akili Vining, Cameron Cox, Sofield and a Brett Carter Jr. three-pointer with 30 seconds left, to cap the first-half scoring.

One of the keys to the game was the Argonaut bench as they outscored AUM 22-6, with Vining being the high-scorer off the bench as he had nine points and three assists.

The Warhawks would not go quietly into the night as a 14-3 run early in the second half, highlighted by a Stanley Davis three-pointer, cut the Argo lead to four with 13:13 remaining in the period.  Davis would lead all Warhawks in scoring with 24 points.

From then on however, it was the Sofield show as the sophomore forward poured in 13 points on the strength of three consecutive three-point field goals for UWF as the Argos went on a 17-4 scoring run to build the lead back up to 65-48 with 8:34 remaining in the contest.  West Florida was able to knock down 10-20 from downtown on the night, their best percentage of the season.

During the stretch, UWF was also able to put consistent full-court pressure on the orange and black, resulting in three turnovers in the three-plus minute stretch.  On the night, the Argos were able to force 21 turnovers, with Sofield collecting a team-high three steals in the contest.

AUM would keep fighting as they were able to trim the deficit down to 5 with 2:04 to go, but once again Flanagan nailed a three from the left wing to put the game on ice and put the Warhawks away for good.

West Florida will have two days off before heading to Valdosta to take on the ninth-ranked Valdosta State Blazers on Tuesday night.  Tip-off from the Complex is set for 7 pm ET.
