PENSACOLA, Fla- The University of West Florida women's soccer team defeated the Union University Bulldogs 3-1 Friday night. The Argos improved to 5-1-1 on the season and 1-1-1 in conference play.
Union took an early 1-0 lead after an unassisted goal from Annika Weidner. Weidners goal would be the only time the Bulldogs scored. After the first goal of the game UWF maintained possession of the ball throughout the first half, outshooting Union 19-2 and picking up eight corner kicks.Â
Senior
Blair Cowan scored an unassisted goal in the 36th minute of the game to even the score before the half.Â
In the second half of the game the Argos came out strong continuing to control the tempo of the game.Â
In the 80th minute
Destiny Hammac scored with an assist from
Peyton Peffers to give  the Argos the lead late in the second half. UWF used the momentum to score another goal just four minutes later.
Peyton Peffers picked up her second assist of the game, after a goal from
Brianna Pope in the 84th minute.
The Argo defense led by
Kileigh Whited and
Hannah Wooten continue to be a tough task for opponents.
Destiny Hird played well on both sides of the ball firing off a number of shots and playing tough defense in the midfield.Â
West Florida outshot Union 15-2 in the second half of the game. UWF had seven corner kicks in the second half, while Union had one.Â
Overall UWF outshot Union 34-4, having 15 corner kicks compared to Unions one.
Kelsey Brann had one save to end the night.Â
The University of West Florida Women's Soccer team will be back in action Sunday at 3 p.m against Christian Brothers at the UWF Soccer Complex.Â
