ROME, Ga. – In the final match of their current road trip, the University of West Florida Volleyball team picked up right where they left off last night in Tennessee taking down Shorter in straight sets to remain unbeaten in conference play on the season.
Now 22-1 on the season, the Argonauts were able to make history in today's match picking up their 17th straight win to secure the longest win streak in program history. Formerly sixteen matches in the 2007 season, this year's team has been on a dominating stretch of matches only dropping 5 sets over this win streak.
In today's match, West Florida did a great job closing out sets and handed the Hawks just their second conference loss of the season.
On the offensive side of the ball,
Tyler Fezzey and
Veresia Yon led the charge for the Argonauts each finishing with 13 kills on the afternoon. Yon in particular attacked at a very efficient rate in today's match hitting .813 in the match which is the second highest attack percentage in program history (minimum of ten kills).
As a team, we finish with 43 kills on 40 assists behind a .333 hitting percentage against a very strong Shorter defense.
Defensively, libero
Ashton Marshall led the team in digs with ten, while as a team we finish with six total blocks in the match. Our defensive effort limited Shorter to just 21 kills in the match on a .012 hitting percentage.
Next up for West Florida is a trip to Winter Haven, Florida to play in the GSC/SSC Regional Crossover. Over Friday and Saturday, the Argonauts will take on three of the top schools the Sunshine State Conference has to offer in what is sure to be some highly competitive volleyball action.
