West Florida Defeats Shorter in Shutout on Senior Day

Four Argos scored to solidify the win and third shutout of the season.

PENSACOLA, Fla- On Sunday the West Florida Women's soccer team defeated the Shorter Hawks 4-0, for a senior day shutout. Four different Argos scored and improved the team's record 8-2-1 overall and 4-2-1 in Gulf South Conference action.
 
Forward, Blair Cowan started the scoring for University of West Florida, getting an assist from Ahnalie Layman in the 12th minute of play. The Argos maintained majority of the possession throughout the first half of the game, limiting Shorter to just three shots and keeping them out of scoring territory.
 
Just before the end of the first half Carina Widauer extended the Argos lead to 2-0, after an assist from Lauren Ragazzone in the 44th minute.
 
Overall UWF outshot the Hawks 13-3, ending the first half with three corner kicks.
 
During the second half of the game West Florida kept the momentum going on both sides of the ball. With defenders Hannah Wooten, Kiliegh Whited and Bailey Erwig controlling the backfield. All three defenders spent time on all areas of the field, taking shots of their own and picking up assist. Wooten finished the match with one assist, while Erwig had two shots and Whited played a complete game.
 
In the 69th minute Lauren Ragazzone scored an assisted goal from Blair Cowan to push the Argos even further ahead. During the 75th minute Ahnalie Layman scored her first collegiate goal to solidify the 4-0 win, after an assist from Hannah Wooten.
 
During the second half the Argos continued to control the possession of the ball throughout, not allowing a single shot from the Hawks. The Argos limited Shorter to a season low three shots.
 
Overall the Argos dominated throughout the game outshooting the Hawks 31-3, with 19 shots on goal, four assist and four goals.
 
Goalkeeper Charline Favier ended the match with two saves.
 
Up next the University of West Florida Women's Soccer team will have the week off before facing Christian Brothers on Tuesday, Oct.26, followed by Delta State and Mississippi College on Oct.29 and Oct.31.
