Zoe Piller and
Jaclyn Jarnot each had a double-double as the UWF women's basketball team outmuscled Palm Beach Atlantic, 79-70, at The Complex to conclude the South Region Crossover at 1-1.
UWF shot 44 percent and outrebounded PBA 43-30. The Argonauts used 12 offensive rebounds to finish with 15 second-chance points, while converting 17 Sailfish turnovers into 25 points.
Piller recorded her first career double-double with 24 points on 7-of-10 shooting and 11 rebounds in 29 minutes. Senior
Charlotte Ellmore added 16 points and classmate Jarnot had 15 points and 11 boards.
"We found ways to battle back when the chips were down," UWF head coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "We grew today as a team. When we play within out roles and do the little things with purpose, we are tough to handle."
The game featured 10 lead changes and was tied five times. The final lead change came in the fourth quarter when the Argos scored seven unanswered to go ahead 59-55 with 6:20 to play. During the run, Piller had six points with two of the baskets on her own offensive rebounds.
Piller had 12 points in the fourth quarter and 18 and nine boards in the second half overall. She was 4-of-4 from the field and 10-of-16 at the free throw line in the final 10 minutes.
The win marked the 150th head coaching victory for Yelton, who is in her 15th season as a college head coach, including the last 10 at UWF.
UWF will face Pensacola Christian College (3-1) on Friday night. Tip-off at the Arlin R. Horton Sports Center on the PCC campus is at 6 p.m.
