UWF Women's Soccer Defeats Lady Blazers in Round One of NCAA Tournament

The Argos will face Embry Riddle on Sunday in round two of the tournament

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. The University of West Florida Women's Soccer team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament after defeating the Valdosta State Lady Blazers 2-1 on Friday afternoon. The Argos will now face Embry Riddle on Sunday, Nov.21 in Daytona Beach, Fla at the Embry Riddle Soccer Stadium. West Florida is now 13-3-2 on the season.

Peyton Peffers put the Argos ahead early in the game scoring from a West Florida throw in during the 8th minute of play. Destiny Hammac picked up her second assist of the season from the goal.
 
West Florida went on to dominate throughout the course of the first half, maintaining possession majority of the half. The Argos outshot Valdosta 8-1, with seven shots on goal. UWF had two corner kicks in the first half and VSU had zero.  VSU goalkeeper Emma Pruett had six saves during the first half to limit the Argos scoring.
 
Defensively UWF was able to limit Valdosta to just one shot during the first half, with goalkeeper Charline Favier picking up one save. The West Florida defense was aggressive from every angle on the field, limiting the Lady Blazers opportunities to get across midfield.
 
In the second half West Florida once again got off to a quick start, scoring in the 51st minute. Destiny Hammac extended the West Florida lead 2-0. Hammac scored from the left side, knocking the ball in just over the head of the Valdosta State goalkeeper.
 
The Lady Blazers would score a goal of their own in the 56th minute. Bailey Hern was able to capitalize off a VSU Corner kick, with an assist from Kyleigh Reedy.
 
The second half was a more balanced for both teams with each controlling possession of the ball throughout the half. West Florida continued to outshoot the Lady Blazers 5-2.
 
Overall UWF outshot VSU 13-3, with five corner kicks compared to the Lady Blazers three. Goalkeeper Charline Favier finished the match with two saves, allowing one goal.
 
Next up the Argos will face the #2 seed Embry Riddle Eagles. The match will take place on Sunday, Nov.21 at 1 P.M Eastern.
 
About Embry Riddle- Embry Riddle comes into the NCAA Tournament as the two seed. The Eagles are 10-3-3 on the season and 7-2-1 in Sunshine Conference play. Embry Riddle won the 2021 SSC Women's Soccer Championship. On the season the Eagles have 30 goals, averaging 1.88 per game. The Eagles have allowed 15 goals on the season.
 
Embry Riddle is outshooting opponents 213-169, averaging 13.3 shots per game. Grace Foyer leads the team in goals with six, Marie Myhrvold Seim has the second most goals with five and also has four assists on the season. Isabelle Navren leads the team in assists with seven.
 
The ERAU goalkeeper Oona Joikenen has allowed 15 goals on the season and has 59 saves.
