Argonauts Outlast Montevallo in Final Regular Season Home Match of the Season

West Florida finishes the season unbeaten at home including a 36-3 set advantage over opponents

PENSACOLA, Fla. - In their final regular-season home match of the season, the No. 7 ranked University of West Florida Volleyball team took down GSC foe Montevallo in five sets to remain unbeaten at home this season.

In just the second five-set match for the Argonauts all season, West Florida was able to pick up wins in the first, third, and fifth set to improve to 28-1 on the season including a 13-0 mark in Gulf South Conference play.

Taking down the Falcons in straight sets earlier in the season, today's match featured many oddities including numerous lengthy official delays which saw dance-offs, waves, and many other celebrations to stay warm.

Capitalizing on numerous Montevallo errors in the match, West Florida leaned heavily on some experienced players in tonight's match to avoid the upset and takedown this very talented Falcon team.

Madi Cooler was the frontrunner in kills tonight for the Argonauts once again finishing with 20 kills in the match. Middle blocker Veresia Yon also tacked on some huge kills in the match totaling 12 kills which combined with Cooler account for over half the Argos kills in the match.

Freshman Avery Rodgers stepped up big in one of the biggest matches of her young career finishing with 13 kills on a .308 hitting percentage. This kill total tonight also sets a new career-high for Rodgers who is sure to have a bright future ahead of her.

Defensively, West Florida's blocking game came up huge in tonight's match especially in the decisive fifth set where they picked up three of their twelve total team blocks in the match. Yon once again led the team with five total blocks while Rodgers and Cooler each added three blocks of their own.

After tonight's victory, the Argonauts now just have three more road contests before they begin the GSC Championship the third weekend in November. With just one win in their final three road matches, West Florida will lock up the No. 1 seed for this tournament and once again host the GSC Championship at the UWF Field House.
