ROME, Ga. – The UWF women's basketball team had four players in double figures and held off a feisty Shorter team for an 83-78 road win at the Winthrop-King Centre on Monday.

UWF (8-1, 3-0 Gulf South) had a strong third quarter where it shot 63 percent and then iced the game at the free throw line for the team's eighth-consecutive victory. That ties the second-longest win streak in program history.

"We still have a lot of things to work on and get better at, and tonight proved that," UWF head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "We want to play a high-level of basketball every time we step on the floor. We didn't put a full game together and that's what we are striving for."

Jaclyn Jarnot, Zoe Piller, Maddie Griffon and Charlotte Ellmore all had at least 11 points, with Jarnot and Piller pulling off the double, double-double for the fifth time in the last eight contests.

Jarnot finished with 23 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Piller had 25 points, 12 boards and two blocks. The Argos outrebounded the Hawks 39-28 and grabbed a season-high 19 offensive caroms that they converted into 24 second-chance points.

The Argonauts shot 42 percent and committed a season-low seven turnovers.

Shorter (1-5, 0-4) shot 46 percent in the game and stayed close with 53 percent from outside on 9-of-17. Jasmine Gaines had 25 points and Tiara Lewis posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

UWF led for the majority of the first half but found itself in a 32-31 deficit going into the locker room following a Ansley Barge 45-footer as time expired. The Argos regained the lead with a 7-0 run early in the third. While they never trailed again, the lead spent a lot of the fourth quarter in the low single digits.

The Argos return home this weekend when they play host to Auburn Montgomery on Saturday afternoon. The game starts at 2 p.m. at the UWF Field House.
