MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The UWF women's basketball team lost to Montevallo, 72-58, at Trustmark Arena on Saturday.
UWF (7-8, 7-8 Gulf South) shot 30 percent and made just 5-of-24 3-pointers. The Argonauts did make 21-of-28 free throws in the game that had a combined 38 fouls.
UWF junior Peyton Lewis established a career-high in scoring for the third time in the last seven games, leading all players with 17 points and two 3-pointers. It also marked her eighth-consecutive game in double figures.
Freshman Alex Haymon also registered a career-high, scoring 12 points on 3-for-5 shooting. She had 10 points in a 12-2 run late in the first half that saw the Argos tie the game at 28-28 heading into halftime.
The Falcons started to pull away in the final two minutes of the third quarter. Leading 39-38, UM stretched the lead to 48-40 with an 11-2 run. The Argos got the deficit back to six but were unable to complete the comeback.
UM (10-4, 10-4) ended the game shooting 35 percent and made 12 3-pointers, including on four-straight possessions to go up 24-11 at the 6:04 mark of the second period.
Kiya Sain led three players in double figures for the Falcons, making two 3-pointers on her way to 13 points.
UWF will play at West Georgia (5-11, 5-11) on Tuesday night. Tip-off at the UWG Coliseum is set for 6 p.m. Eastern Time.
