Rome, Ga. – After two close, hard-fought matches to start the season, the UWF Men's Tennis team was able to win 7-0 in the final game of the weekend against Shorter. The Argonauts now improve to 3-0 on the season will have just under a week to recover before putting their undefeated record on the line during the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
Against Shorter, UWF got off to another solid start winning the lone doubles point for the third match in a row. This was also the second time on the young season in which all three pairings came out victorious in doubles.
Salvador Bandeira and
Gabriel Nery played today's match as the No. 1 pairing and came out victorious with a 6-2 win over Shorter's Strahinja Radanovic and Jan Kos.
Nicolas Lecoutre and
William Shkrob improved to 2-1 as a pair winning 6-2 as the No. 2 pairing. Newcomer
Lluis Miralles Miro saw his first action as an Argo today teaming up with
Juan Motta to win 6-2 in their match as well.
Singles play saw UWF win in straight sets in all six matches giving them all six singles points for the first time this season.
Serdar Bojadjiev picked up his first singles win of the year beating Radanovic 6-3, 6-0 to improve to 1-2 on the season.
Juan Cabrera continued his great start to the year winning 6-0, 6-0 to move to 3-0 in singles. Adam Svennson and Nery each improved their records to 2-0 after convincing wins against the Hawks. Motta and Miro each picked up their first wins of the season as well going to 1-2 for Motta and 1-0 for Miro.
"It's always nice to close out a tough road trip with a win," stated Head Coach
Derrick Racine. "We look forward to a couple days of rest and easy practice before we head out to Oklahoma for the ITA National Team Indoors this next weekend."
Next up for West Florida is a trip to Oklahoma City for the Argo's second appearance in the ITA National Indoor Championship. Here UWF will be up against the best Division II has to offer and will get a good gauge on where they are at early in the season.
