Saint Leo, Fla- West Florida held off the Saint Leo Lions in Friday's match, defeating the Lions 1-0. The Argos are now 3-0 to start the season.
The Argos took an early 1-0 lead when Senior
Blair Cowan scored in the third minute from a penalty kick. Cowan leads the team in goals with three on the season. Making her the only Argonaut to score in all three games this year.
Goalkeeper
Charline Favier had two pivotal saves in the first half keeping the Lions scoreless. The Argos and Lions would share possession of the ball throughout the first half with each team finding ways to take control of the game.
UWF out shot SLU 5-4. The Argos had a chance to take a 2-0 lead going into the half. However, the Argos effort was stalled after the  goal was called offside.
In the second half of the game the Argo offense was once again stalled by Saint Leo goalkeeper Maitane Bravo who ended the night with six saves. However, UWF keeper Favier kept the Lions at zero, getting the Argos first shutout of the season.
The second half of the game saw both teams get off a number of shots battling down the field. Both teams' keepers did not allow any scoring in the second half of the game.
The Argos did continue to outshoot the Lions in the second half 6-4, outshooting them 11-8 overall.
Charline Favier ended the night with five saves keeping Saint Leo off the board. The Lions had three corner kicks to end the night compared to the Argos two.

Destiny Hird all played the entire 90 minutes.Â
Next UWF will face the Florida Southern Moccasins on Sunday (Sept. 12) at noon est. The last time the Argos and Mocs faced off was in 2016 where the Argos walked away with a 2-1 victory. Overall the record stands at 10-2-1 in favor of the Argos.
