PENSACOLA, Fla. – Fresh off of a 3-0 week of play last week, the University of West Florida Volleyball team will jump right back into action on Tuesday with a midweek matchup against Spring Hill.
Taking on the Badgers for the second time this season, the Argonauts are looking for similar success to what they accomplished earlier in the season when they swept Spring Hill from the Springhill Suites Invitational.
About West Florida: The Argonauts, now 14-1 on the season, come into Tuesday's meeting with the Badgers ranked as the No. 16 team in the country according to the Sept. 20 AVCA Coaches Poll.
Running one of the top offenses in the nation, West Florida has used a great mix of youth and veterans to achieve one of the best starts in program history.
Middle blocker,
Veresia Yon, has been someone the Argonauts can count on each and every match so far this season. Named the AVCA National Player of the Week this past week, Yon has already totaled over 150 kills on the season in 48 sets played and leads West Florida in points with 204.0 through her first 15 matches.
Freshman outside,
Alex Oliver, has stepped up big for West Florida over their past four matches recording 48 kills in three starts for the Argos. In addition to her added firepower offensively, Oliver has also been big defensively picking up 34 digs and eight blocks in these past four matches.
Taylor Vaneekeren has been another key aspect of West Florida's offensive success this season orchestrating the Argonaut offense from her setter position. Leading the conference in assists per set, the Junior setter is just nine assists away from hitting the 2,000 mark in her West Florida career.
As a team the Argonauts currently rank within the top five nationally in blocks per set, assists per set, hitting percentage, kills per set, and total team blocks.
About Spring Hill: After an 0-4 start to their campaign, the Badgers have found their rhythm as of late rallying off 16 straight wins to hold a 16-4 record entering Tuesday's matchup with the Argonauts.
Paced by their standout middle, Kassandra Fairly, the Badgers offense features five players with 80 or more kills already on the season.
Setting this potent offense for Spring Hill is a committee of players who each have found success early on this season. Both Jessica Fairly and Grace Harris have seen extended playing time as the Badgers setter this season with each dishing out over 300 assists to this point in the season.
Defensively, Spring Hill currently has four players with 25 or more total blocks including a team-high 41 from middle Olivia Peyton.
Tuesday's Match Information: First serve on Tuesday is set for 6 pm (CST) from the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center. Fans can follow along via live stats
