MOBILE, Ala. – Taking a quick detour from conference play, the University of West Florida Volleyball team picked up a midweek non-conference victory on Tuesday night sweeping the Badgers of Spring Hill for the second time this season.
Now 15-1 on the season, the Argonauts were able to extend their win streak to ten on Tuesday taking down the Badgers in dominating fashion.
On offense, it was once again
Veresia Yon and
Alex Oliver leading the charge for the Argonauts in tonight's match. Yon, who was named GSC Offensive Player of the Week earlier today, led the team with 12 kills and 16 points on the night. Oliver, who earned GSC Freshman of the Week recognition today, recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs in the match.
Setter
Taylor Vaneekeren, reached another great milestone in her West Florida career tonight surpassing 2,000 career assists in the first set of tonight's match. Vaneekeren is now one of just six players in program history to reach this mark and now sits just eight assists away from ranking fifth all-time in assists at West Florida.
Defensively, the Argonauts forced the Badgers into lots of errors limiting Spring Hill to a -.027 hitting percentage as a team. Behind eight total team blocks, Spring Hill was only able to connect on 18 kills in the match compared to the 49 kills from West Florida.
West Florida will now get a few days of rest before returning to action this weekend from the friend confines of the UWF Field House. Action begins on Friday at 6 pm against Mississippi College in what will be Family Night at the Field House. Then on Saturday, West Alabama comes to town to take on the Argonauts with first serve set from 1 pm.
