Laredo, TX- The University of West Florida Women's soccer team opened up the 2021 season with a 2-1 victory over the Texas A&M International Dustdevils in overtime.
Newcomer
Blair Cowan scored the Argos first goal in the 9th minute of the game on a set piece to put the Argos up 1-0. In the first half the team out shot the Dustdevils 12-2.
Texas A&M International scored their first goal of the night in the 70th minute to even the score 1-1. The Dustdevils controlled the game for a solid 10 minutes during the second half. However, the Argos were able to withstand the attack.
At the end of regulation, the score remained a tie and the two teams faced off in overtime.
Destiny Hammac scored the game winning goal in overtime after taking the ball off a defender.
The first game of the season was an evenly matched game, going up against a tough opponent to open up the season on road. The returners did a fantastic job after not playing since the 2019 season.
