MOBILE, Ala. – The UWF women's basketball team made a school-record 16 3-pointers and had four players in double figures in a 90-43 road win over Spring Hill on Tuesday.
UWF (14-4) snapped a 2-game losing skid overall and a 2-game stretch at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center. The Argonauts improved to 6-3 on the road this season.
The Argos shot a season-high 52 percent and were 16-of-33 from outside for 49 percent. The previous 3-point record was 12 set twice last season.
"I am super proud of our team with the execution of the offense, ball movement and unselfish play which led to multiple players being able to get open shots," UWF head coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "Tonight we got open shots and made them which was a confidence boost for a lot of players on our team."
Gabby Brown had a game-high 18 points to lead a balanced offensive attack that saw
Peyton Lewis make four triples for a season-high-tying 16 points,
Jaclyn Jarnot score 15 points and grab nine rebounds and
Charlotte Ellmore matched Lewis from outside for 14 points and a career-high eight assists. All 10 players who had at least 10 minutes of playing time scored for UWF.
UWF assisted on 29 of 33 field goals for an 87.8 percent assist rate.
The Argos used a 10-0 run late in the first quarter to start to pull away while making five 3-pointers to grab a 21-11 lead after 10 minutes. The lead was extended to 40-22 at the half and the visitors never looked back.
SHC (3-15) shot 30 percent and committed 15 turnovers which the Argos scored 17 points off of. Tyashia Bostick had 14 points to lead the Badgers.
UWF will conclude its current 4-game road trip on Saturday with a contest at Valdosta State (14-3). Tip off at The Complex in Valdosta, Georgia will be at 2 p.m. Eastern Time.
