UWF Falls at No. 18 Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga. – No. 18/17 Valdosta State used a strong second quarter to build a lead they maintained as the UWF women's basketball team fell to the Lady Blazers, 81-54, at The Complex on Saturday.
 
UWF (14-5, 8-4 Gulf South) shot 57 percent in the fourth quarter but just 37 percent overall. Jaclyn Jarnot led the Argonauts with 12 points and two 3-point field goals. Zoe Piller and Rafaella Piassa each had nine points.
 
VSU (15-5, 10-2) came out aggressive after losing a double-digit lead in a loss at Benedict on Wednesday and got 22 points from Kwajelin Farrar and 20 from Tamiya Francis and shot 57 percent on the day. They also held a 34-25 rebounding edge. 
 
UWF went inside for much of the first quarter a Piller and Jarnot combined for all 13 points but the Argos trailed 19-13 following a Nicole Heyn 3-pointers in the final seconds.
 
The Lady Blazers scored the first 13 of the second quarter as they went inside to Farrar religiously. She scored 12 points in the quarter as they built the lead to 36-20 at the break, with 22 coming in the paint.
 
The Argos will return to Pensacola for a pair of games next week against West Alabama and Alabama Huntsville, Thursday's game against the Tigers will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the UWF Field House.
