The No. 5-ranked UWF Volleyball team faced off against the No. 8-ranked Central Missouri in the final game of the Springhilll Suites invitaitonal on Aug. 26, 2022 in the UWF Field House.The Argos managed to come out on top in a hard fought battle with the Jennies in five sets, going undefeated in the invitational and starting their 2022 campaign 4-0.

Argonaut Offense Shines in Annual Blackout Match

Rodgers leads UWF with 16 kills

PENSACOLA, Fla. – In a night which UWF honored Senior Taylor Vaneekeren for her career 3,000 assists and 1,000 digs mark, she and sophomore Avery Rodgers paced the Argos to a 3-1 sets victory over the Alabama Huntsville Chargers.
 
Early on in the match, Vaneekeren and Rodgers set the tone for the Argos as Rodgers collected five kills to go along with Vaneekeren's 12 assists to help the Argos take the first set 25-20.
 
The Argos fought hard throughout the second set, as the score was tied 10 times and four separate lead changes occurred late, before the Chargers would take their only set of the match 25-22.
 
Camila Vazquez and Avery Rodgers would go on to highlight the third set for the Argos as they both provided critical kills in the set that ended the Chargers runs to come back into the match at 14-10, and 19-16. The Argos would go on to close out the set on a 6-1 run to win 25-17 and go up two sets to one headed into the fourth set.
 
The fourth on final set of the evening showcased the full dominance that the offense and defense of this Argos team can truly bring to the court as they can out of the gate taking a 10-3 lead. Key blocks from Jenna Zydlo and Avery Rodgers started the set and Alex Oliver's four kills in the final set proved to be no match for the UAH Chargers as the Argos took the set 25-17 and the match victory 3-1.
 
The balanced Argos attack saw three players record double-digit kills, Oliver 10, Vazquez 12, and with a team and game high 16 Avery Rodgers. To go along with those kills, Rodgers recorded a team high 6 blocks to go along with Vazquez's 5. Meg Brackhan led the team in digs tonight with 14 , and Kierra Potts chipped in with 12 herself to along with Alex Oliver's 9 who fell just one dig short of a double-double tonight. Senior honoree Vaneekeren finished the game with 46 assists, 8 kills, and 4 blocks to lead this UWF team to its 13th win of the season.
 
UWF returns to action on Saturday afternoon at 12:30pm at the UWF Field House against the University of Montevallo Falcons. Admission is free tomorrow for the game, and make sure to stick around afterwards as the Argos with hold an autograph session at the conclusion of tomorrows match.
