BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The 13th-ranked UWF women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss to Eckerd in its first match of the GSC/SSC Crossover at the Finley Center on Friday.
UWF (17-5) hit .222 and had three players post double-digit kills. The defense dug 60 attacks and finished with seven blocks.
Jenna Zydlo led UWF with 15 kills, while

In the opening set, UWF grabbed a 12-9 lead before Eckerd scored five-consecutive points to start a 10-2 run on its way to a 25-19 win.
The second set went back-and-forth with the Tritons grabbing a 28-26 victory. The Argos battled back from a 24-23 deficit to take a 25-24 lead but were unable to close out the set before EC scored four of the final five points.
UWF dominated the third set, hitting .342 and forcing EC into six attack errors en route to a 25-13 margin. The Argos scored the first five points in the frame and led 20-9 at one point.
In the fourth set, Eckerd never let UWF get the momentum necessary to force a deciding set. The teams traded side outs for the majority of the first 20 points. EC used a 5-2 run to extend its lead to 13-9. The Argos scored three-straight to pull within one but the Tritons responded with three of their own to regain a safe margin before ultimately securing the match with a 25-19 win.
Eckerd (15-4) won two matches on Friday and extended its winning streak to six, which includes a win over previously top-ranked Tampa earlier this week.
UWF will return to play on Saturday with matches against Nova Southeastern at 11:15 a.m. and No. 17 Barry at 7 p.m.
