No. 21 West Florida Takes Down Spring Hill 4-1

Four different Argos scored against the Badgers

PENSACOLA, Fla.- The No. 21 ranked West Florida Men's Soccer Team put together a dominating win over Spring Hill on Saturday evening, taking a 4-1 win over the Badgers.

The Argonauts improve to 8-2-3 overall and 6-0-3 GSC record while the Badgers fall to 4-6-3 and 2-4-3 GSC record.

The first half saw UWF with the offensive momentum as the Argos had the first shots in the 4th and 5th minute of play by midfielder Caue Novaes. SHC goalkeeper Gino Gandzior had two back-to-back saves to keep the Argos out of the net. In the first half, the Badgers faced 17 shots from the Argo offense.
The first goal would come in the 19th minute of play with a beautiful pass from Keegan Ancelin to freshman Jaime Guillen. This marks Guillen's first goal of the season and first touch of the game.

The Argo backline held the Badgers to only five shots in the first half with Eduardo Quieroz, Keegan Lynch, Tom Preston, and Fynn Geigle holding up the defense.

Heading into the break, UWF had the 1-0 lead having 17 shots in the first half and 11 shots on goal.

West Florida got the ball rolling in the first half as three different Argos tallied goals. The second goal would come in the 59th minute as Kainan Dos Santos dribbled the ball through traffic and passed it to Keegan Ancelin to increase the lead to two.

The Argos increased the margin to three when Dos Santos slid the ball past the SHC goalkeeper in the 63rd minute. The assist was handed to Tom Preston. This is his seventh goal of the season.

Spring Hill found their rhythm in the 81st minute with a goal from forward Hugo Frivoid, who shot the ball into the lower right corner of the net.

West Florida picked up another goal on a shot by graduate student Teavon Spencer. After not playing for two years due to injury and COVID-19, Spencer recorded his first goal of the season as he was emotional due to everything he has been through the past two years.

The Argonauts are the only team in the Gulf South Conference that remain undefeated. West Florida tallied 29 total shots while the Badgers had ten. The Argos had nine corners to Spring Hill's one.

Spencer and the rest of the Argonauts will be back at the UWF Soccer Complex next weekend for the last two games of the regular season with a match against Delta State on Oct. 21 and Mississippi College on Oct. 23.
