Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

UWF Shutout Delta State 4-0 at Home

This is the fifth shutout for the Argos on the season

PENSACOLA, Fla.- On Friday evening, the No. 15 West Florida Men's Soccer Team shutout the Statesmen 4-0 at the UWF Soccer Complex. The Argonauts improve to 9-2-3 overall and 7-0-3 in the GSC. Delta State falls to 3-6-4 overall and 2-5-2 in conference play. UWF is currently ranked No. 1 in the Gulf South Conference and earns their seventh win against a GSC opponent.

UWF backline did not allow a single shot in 90 minutes of regulation. The Argo defense was compiled of senior captain Lucas Barankiewicz, Eduardo Quieroz, Keegan Lynch, and Fynn Geigle. This marks the fifth shutout on the season for the Argos.

West Florida had five shots in the first half with one shot on goal. Midfielder Tom Preston tallied two shots while Dos Santos, Josiah Fontenot, and Kendrick Hernandez had a single shot each.

The Argos would have a strong second half with four goals to defeat the Statesmen 4-0. The first goal would come from Kainan Dos Santos just outside the box off a beautiful pass by Ancelin in the 47th minute. This marks Dos Santo's eighth goal of the season.

The second goal would come two minutes later from Ancelin to double the lead 2-0. The assist was handed to Barankiewicz.

Second year forward Fontenot had quite a game tallying two goals on the night in the 78th and 86th minute. Fontenot now has four goals on the season. DSU goalkeeper Colton Mueller had three saves with one being in the first and two in the second.

UWF had 16 shots in 90 minutes of regulation while DSU had zero. The Argos recorded five corners to the Statesmen three.

West Florida clinched a share of the title with the win over Delta State on Friday evening and will host a GSC Championship first round game as the No. 1 seed on Sunday, Oct. 30. The game time will be announced next week. 

The Argonauts will be back in action at the UWF Soccer Complex for a match against Mississippi College at 12:30 p.m. Sunday marks Senior Day as men's soccer will recognize senior Teavon Spencer for everything he has done for this program.
