MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The 13th-ranked UWF women's volleyball team defeated Montevallo, 3-0, at Trustmark Arena on Tuesday night. The win gave the Argonauts a 3-0 record on their final road trip of the regular season.
UWF (22-5, 12-1 Gulf South) was led offensively by
Avery Rodgers and
Jenna Zydlo, who had 10 kills apiece, while
Camila Vazquez hit .818 with nine kills on 11 attacks. The Argos got defensive contributions from up and down the lineup as 10 different players had at least one dig or one block.
UWF trailed 13-8 in the first set before taking the lead following an 11-2 run. But UM tied the set at 23 leading to back-to-back kills from
Alex Oliver and Vazquez for the 25-23 win.
In the second set, neither team led by more than two points the entire frame. The Falcons got three points in a row for a 23-22 lead but the Argos bounced back withthe final three points for a 25-23 triumph.
In the third set, UWF found itself trailing 9-7 before a 7-1 run swung the momentum back to the Blue and Green. The Argos held off the Falcons for a 25-21 win to secure the match.
UWF will return to play at home this weekend as it opens a 3-game homestand to conclude the regular season. Friday's match with Mississippi College (21-4, 10-2) is billed as both Family Night and 'Volloween' with costume contests all match long. First serve is at 6 p.m. at the UWF Field House.
