Pope Leads UWF in Victorious Last Road Conference Game

Pope is Tied for First in the Nation for the Most Singe-Game Goals at Four

Rome, Ga. --- Scoring just less than half of the Argo goals, forward Brianna Pope is tied for first in the nation among 12 other Division II players in single-game high of goals after sinking four against Shorter in Sunday's afternoon final regular season conference road game.

The last time an Argo player scored four goals in one game was back in 2010 by Shakira Duncan against Lambuth in a 7-0 win.

Pope took no time in finding her groove by scoring in the fourth and tenth minute for back-to-back goals to get a quick 2-0 lead on the Hawks (0-13-1 overall, 0-9 GSC).

Defender Bailey Erwig was able to get on the action to score the team's third goal of the afternoon and her first of the season that was assisted by this week's GSC defender of the week Kileigh Whited. Whited has four assists on the season and is tied for second most on the team.

The following 11 minutes no shots occurred for either team until the 29th minute when a Hawks player fouled in the box for the Argos to earn a penalty kick. Taken by Alyssa Wilson, she scored her second goal of the season to increase the lead 4-0. The last time Wilson scored was in the season opener against Barry University in a 2-0 win.

The Argos ended the first half with a 4-0 lead and did not let up. Pope opened the second half to score her third goal of the game and join Blair Cowan in hat tricks this season.

Starting the second half was Madison Dulay who made her minutes worth it as she was able to sink one in the back of the net to earn her second goal of the season that was assisted by Blair Cowan. Wilson and Dulay are tied with two other Argo players for two goals apiece.

Just after earning an assist, Cowan went to score her first goal of the game three minutes after. Cowan's goal was assisted by Charline Favier to be awarded her first season point.

In the 70th minute, Cowan found herself almost scoring in back-to-back goals but hit the side post to be just shy.

It would be at the 78th minute mark where Pope joined the current nation's best of single-game high of four goals. Pope has the second most goals on the team with a total of seven and has the sixth most goals in the conference. Pope also joins the top 15 in points as she totals 14 points to sit at the seventh spot in the rankings.

Shortly after the Argos would increase the lead 9-0 as redshirt sophomore Charline Favier scored her first career goal that was assisted by Cowan. Favier's primary position is goalkeeper but has found herself playing 178 minutes in other positions.

After Cowan's multiple assist performance and just shy of a goal an extra goal, Cowan earned a penalty kick to sink her second goal of the game and end the game at a 10-0 final. Cowan leads the team with 14 goals and is tied for the most assists on the team at six. Cowan leads the conference in points tallying a total of 34. Cowan is also tied with Ellie Crisler from Lee for the most goals in the conference.

Maciah Lipsey started in the net for the Argos playing 21 minutes and the freshman Mia Ferkranus stepped on the field to play the remaining 69 minute and record a save.

The Argos continue to sit at the one seed in the GSC standings with a 11-2-1 overall record and 9-1 GSC record.
