PENSACOLA, Fla. – Daniel Sofield had 20 points and UWF led by double digits for the final 33 minutes in a 98-67 victory over Clark Atlanta in the season opener for both teams at the UWF Field House on Saturday.
Sofield made two 3-pointers and handed out a team-high five assists as UWF drained 13 triples as a team – including 8-of-17 in the first half.
UWF led 10-7 before exploding on an 18-3 run over 4:15 that saw the home team make 6-of-6 overall and three shots from outside. They couldn't miss and ended the half shooting 54 percent from the floor.
In addition to Sofield, David Petit-Homme had 12 points and Wendell Matthews finished with 10 points. Matthews, Jejuan Wetherspoon and Channick Nkoma all had six rebounds as the Argos grabbed 16 offensive caroms before turning those into 15 second-chance points.
UWF shot 51 percent overall.
UWF will return to play on Sunday evening against Fort Valley State (0-1), who fell to Valdosta State, 85-58. Tip-off is at 6:30 p.m. following the VSU-CAU contest.
