UWF Controls NSU and Gains Another Win

The Argos advance to the third round of the NCAA Championship

Pensacola, Fla. --- The University of West Florida women's soccer team defeats the South Region 2-seed Nova Southeastern in the NCAA Championship second round match.

Mya Swinton recorded her first start since Oct. 2 and became an offensive threat early as she found the back of the net in the 10th minute to get a quick 1-0 lead for the Argos. The goal came off a ricochet from a Shark defender and Swinton being placed in the right position, she was able to one touch it in to find the back of the net and earn her first points in about six weeks.

The Argos controlled the game for the following minutes and was able to extend the lead just 12 minutes after. Awarded a free kick near the 50-yard line, Okada placed the ball just in front of the post for Blair Cowan to easily tap it in the top left corner. This is Cowan's 21st goal on the season – two goals shy of being tied as the leading scorer in Division II.

In the 32nd minute, the Argos came up with a great team save to keep the Sharks scoreless in the first half.

In the 58th minute, the Sharks began to build some momentum and got on the board off a Luana Grabias and Dejah Holman combination.

The Argos had a 15-13 edge on shots and a slight 7-6 advantage on shots on goal.

Cowan led the team with five shots, followed by Manami Okada who took four and Destiny Hird hit three after playing 90 minutes in the midfield position.

Maciah Lipsey recorded four saves to keep the Sharks to one goal in 90 minutes.

Up next, the Argos will head on the road and take on the winner of 1-seed Embry-Riddle and 4-seed Florida Southern who play Sunday, Nov. 13 at 3:00 p.m. UWF versus the winner game date and time is to be determined.
