MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Haylee Luttrell made a career-high five 3-pointers and UWF had three players in double figures in a dominating 84-59 win over Montevallo at Trustmark Arena on Saturday.
UWF (6-5, 6-3 Gulf South) shot a combined 63 percent in the second and third quarters to pull away for its third-consecutive win over UM (4-10, 4-6).
"We got stops from our defense (in the second quarter) and that's what opened the game up for us," UWF head coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "When you are making stops you can come down and score and get the offense going."
Zoe Piller had 22 points and 10 rebounds, followed by 18 from Luttrell and 12 points and nine boards from
Jaclyn Jarnot.
The Argonauts shot 51 percent in the contest and made nine triples. They also outrebounded the Falcons by a 45-34 margin and turned 12 offensive boards into 10 second chance points.
UM shot just 33 percent and committed 15 turnovers – 11 coming on UWF steals.
UWF broke the game open in the second quarter, scoring the first 13 points to grab a 29-15 lead. The Argos took a 38-24 advantage into the locker room and eventually led by 67-40 after three quarters.
UWF will continue its road swing through Alabama and face Auburn Montgomery (4-10, 3-7) at the AUM Gymnasium on Monday at 1 p.m.
