PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF men's basketball team suffered a 69-63 loss to Union at the UWF Field House on Friday.
UWF (4-5, 1-5 Gulf South) was led in scoring by
LaTrell Tate's 15 points and seven rebounds.
Daniel Sofield had 12 points and a team-high four assists while
Wendell Matthews pulled down a game-high eight rebounds to go with eight points.
The Argonauts shot 35 percent and were 21-of-26 from the free throw line.
Union (5-4, 4-1) had four players score in double figures, paced by Tylandrius Parks' game high 16 points. JC Claus came off the bench and made four 3-pointers before finishing with 14 points.
After playing a back-and-forth first 17 minutes, the Bulldogs got a pair of 3-pointers to create some distance and claim a 36-28 lead at the half.
In the second period, UWF scored the first seven points to pull within 36-35. The Bulldogs bounced back with six-consecutive points. The Argos trimmed the deficit to four a few minutes later but never got any closer the rest of the contest.
"Kind of the same things we've been going through – not getting the 50-50 balls; not being able to get stops at key times and missing some big shots – some open shots that we've got to make to win close games," UWF head coach
Jeff Burkhamer said.
UWF will return to play on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the UWF Field House against Christian Brothers.
