Alexandra Seppanen is a member of the UWF women's golf team and has earned distinction as a Gulf South Conference Academic Honor Roll selection. We are grateful for Alexandra's support as a donor to the UWF athletic department and as a student-athlete. Thank you Alex!
What year are you?
I'm a sophomore both athletically and academically.
What is your major?
I've always been very interested in science and especially genetics and the ocean which is why I'm majoring in marine biology. Adding a minor in chemistry or genetics is something I'm planning as well. The marine biology program here at UWF is one of the best in the field and having the opportunity to work under so many renowned professors and scientists has been an incredible experience so far.
What aspirations do you have after college?
After graduating from UWF, I would like to pursue a Masters or PhD degree in biochemistry either back home in Sweden or somewhere else in Europe. Of course, I plan to continue playing golf wherever I go and represent Argo blue and green! Golf brings so many people together and constantly challenges you to improve which I think is an important influence to have in your life.
Why do you continue to give to the Varsity Club?
While being here at UWF, I've really started to understand the value of supporting a community that I'm a part of. I want to continue to support my present and future team, even if it's just a small donation, I've seen first hand the difference it makes. All the activities that we have been able to do with the team have really impacted our comradery in the best way possible, which to me is one of the most valuable things in college sports. If I can be a part of that in the future, then that would be just as special.
What impact do you think your Varsity Club donation makes?
The impact that every donation makes can truly be seen every day. The athletic department and our Coach do an amazing job at making all types of opportunities available to us. But mostly it's about the experience. Every donation contributes towards our experience of being a college athlete. We would not be able to host such a great home tournament, participate in team building activities like dance classes, get to wear the new Nike gear, have access to incredible golf technology or travel the way we do without the funds from the Varsity Club.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
Two winters ago I went camping with my friends in the North of Sweden for 5 days straight while it was -19°C. This is one of the reasons why I appreciate Florida weather so much.
