PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF women's basketball team defeated Shorter, 69-47, at the UWF Field House on Thursday.
UWF (18-6, 12-5 Gulf South) never trailed and was in control from the opening tip, getting their first 10 points from Peyton Lewis as the Argonauts led 10-6 before securing a 23-14 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Argos scored the first 10 in the second quarter and led 42-23 at the half behind 40 percent shooting, including five 3-pointers. UWF used a 16-3 run late in the third to extend the lead to 60-31.
Lewis led the way offensively for UWF, making three first-half triples on her way to a game-high 16 points, tying her season-high for the third time this year.
Charlotte Ellmore had 13 points to reach double figures for the third-consecutive game and Jaclyn Jarnot posted a double-double of 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
UWF was 5-of-11 from outside in the first half before finishing with eight 3-pointers.
Shorter (4-14, 1-13) got 14 points from leading scorer Jasmine Gaines, although she was held six points below her GSC-leading scoring average.
UWF remained in fourth place in the league standings but pulled within a half game of Lee (19-5, 12-4) for third place. The Argos host the Lady Flames on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the annual Play 4 Kay game.
